New Edited Volume “The Oxford Handbook of Social Policies in the Global South (1)” Published
On June 15, 2026, Oxford University Press published the new volume "The Oxford Handbook of Social Policies in the Global South (1)". The handbook is edited by Carina Schmitt of the University of Bamberg, among others. For the first time, it offers a comprehensive and critical overview of the current state of research on social policies and social policy institutions outside developed capitalist countries.
The contributions in this handbook focus on both social policy at the regional level and policies at the national level.
Various chapters examine questions such as: “What are the main social policies and social policy institutions in place in the Global South?”, “What explains their current level of development and future dynamics?”, and “What are the outstanding factors influencing social policies in the Global South?”
