3rd European Sustainability Accounting & Reporting Conference (ESARC) in Bamberg

From September 10–11, 2026, the University of Bamberg hosted ESARC 2026

From September 10–11, 2026, the University of Bamberg hosted ESARC 2026, bringing together researchers and academics to advance the field of sustainability accounting and reporting. We had an inspiring two days of scholarly exchange, rigorous research, and meaningful academic discussions!

About 50 research presentations explored topics like Scope 3 emissions, CSRD/ESRS implementation, greenwashing, circular economy, and biodiversity reporting. We also witnessed two powerful keynotes from Ingmar Juergenson "Scope 3 – Is the European Commission’s simplification crusade losing sight of the biggest environmental risks?" and  Carol Adamson "Linking research in sustainability accounting and reporting with practice and policy initiatives."

With delegates from over 30 institutions across Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, we could explore and share diverse perspectives and fostered international research collaborations.

Many thanks to the participants, presenters, discussants, and session chairs for their enthusiasm, rigorous feedback, and commitment to advancing sustainability research, and for the insightful discussions on policy dynamics, ESG assurance, decoupling in sustainability reporting, or the role of higher education in preparing future leaders.
