Heritage Transformation at the Periphery. War-Damaged Urban and Rural Areas at the Beginning of the 20th Century in Romania and Moldova

Issues related to heritage in conflict, with a focus on Eastern Europe, are explored by Dr. Laura Demeter in her research ‘Heritage Transformation at the Periphery. War-Damaged Urban and Rural Areas at the Beginning of the 20th Century in Romania and Moldova’. This project aims to address the complexity of war damages and their lasting impact on the built environment in the context of the Second World War in Romania and Bessarabia.

The interdisciplinary research aims to contribute to providing a comprehensive understanding of the war damages in the Romanian urban and rural context (1940-1945) and it focuses on understanding the legacies of war damages in various cities in Romania (e.g. Bucharest, Braşov, Iaşi, Ploieşti) and in Bessarabia (Chişinău), in addition to the rural environment in Moldova.
