The Multimodal Intelligent Interaction group at the University of Bamberg aims to fill, at the next possible date, a position as

PhD Student – Scientific Employee (m/f/d)
in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Robot Systems
(Full-time, salary according to E13 TV-L)

initially limited to 2 years with the option of extension and the goal of a doctoral degree.

The Multimodal Intelligent Interaction group performs research in the field of intelligent systems and human-robot interaction (HRI). The focus is on hybrid AI approaches, machine learning methods, generative AI, foundation models, and multimodal interaction. Application areas include the intuitive instruction of robot systems and cobots for SMEs, service robots, social robots, humanoid robots.

Your Role:

  • Research in the area of embodied AI and the intersection of robotics and AI in the context of cobots and human-robot interaction
  • Independent scientific work on a research topic
  • Participation in research and teaching at the chair
  • Presentation of research results at international conferences and publication in internationally recognized journals
  • Realization and further development of robot demonstrators in research and teaching
  • Participation in teaching courses and supervision of seminar papers and theses

Your Profile:

  • Good completed university degree (Master or equivalent) in computer science
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, computer science, mathematics, or related areas
  • Very good programming skills (e.g., C++, Python)
  • Experience in programming with AI frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Keras, Tensorflow)
  • Experience in programming distributed robot systems (e.g., Robot Operating System, Franka Research 3)
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary research
  • Strong ability to work analytically, conceptually and independently as well as good communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to teach in German and in English is required
