Biography
Katharina Heger has been a research associate at the Junior Professorship for Sociology, with a focus on Work and Health, since July 2026. She is involved in the project “Occupational Epidemiological Analyses of Selected Infectious Diseases Based on Longitudinal Data from the NAKO Health Study” (BAuA F2597). Previously, she studied Political and Social Studies (B.A.) from 2020 to 2023 and Political and Social Sciences (M.A.) from 2023 to 2026 at the University of Würzburg. During her studies, she was supported by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation.
Alongside her studies, she worked as a student assistant at the Chair of Methods of Quantitative Empirical Social Research at the University of Würzburg and at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) in the research area of Educational Returns and Post-School Education in Bamberg. Through these roles and her studies, Katharina Heger acquired extensive knowledge in empirical social and educational research as well as in quantitative research methods.

Research Interests
Katharina Heger’s research interests are at the intersection of health, education, work, and social inequality. Her primary focus is on the social determinants of health and well-being, as well as health- and illness-related behavior. Additionally, she investigates educational inequalities in the context of social background, particularly the educational challenges and health disparities faced by first-generation university students.
