New article on support for research data reuse in humanities data journals

The article Support for Reuse in Data Journals – Current State and Future Perspectives for the Humanities by Sonja Lachner, Leon Fruth and Prof. Dr. Andreas Henrich has been published at the 26th ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL 2026) in Frisco, Texas:

The article examines how humanities-oriented data journals support the reuse of research data. Data journals are considered an important publication format for this Open Science goal. However, it has so far remained unclear how they put this goal into practice. The authors therefore analyze ten humanities data journals on two levels: their templates and guidelines for data papers, and their search interfaces. Many journals explicitly name reuse as a goal, and half of them ask authors in their templates or guidelines to describe the reuse potential of their data. In the search systems, however, this information plays no role. It cannot be searched specifically, it cannot be used as a filter, and it does not appear in the result lists. The problem is therefore not so much that information on reuse is missing, but that it is hard to see and to access. The authors therefore propose capturing this information in a structured, machine-readable form, for example through metadata fields, which could also be filled in automatically using LLMs.
