Robin Jegan and Adrian Wöltche defend their PhD thesis

Last week, two doctoral candidates from the Chair of Media Informatics defended their dissertations.

On July 13, Robin Jegan defended his PhD thesis, entitled “LLMs and Generative AI for Everything? A Case Analysis for Applications in Natural Language Processing”. His dissertation analyses how well large language models perform compared to more traditional ML methods in various sub-fields of natural language processing, with a particular focus on the use case of text segmentation.

This was followed on July 14 by Adrian Wöltche’s defence. In his doctoral thesis, entitled “Map Matching Methods for Assigning Vehicle Positions to Road Networks”, he develops and evaluates an improved method for matching potentially faulty or noisy GPS measurement data with road models (known as map matching) using Markov decision processes. The method was developed in collaboration with Hof University of Applied Sciences (Prof. Dr. Richard Göbel).

With the public defence of their theses, Robin Jegan and Adrian Wöltche have successfully completed their doctoral studies, earning the degree of Dr. rer. nat. The chair extends its warmest congratulations to both of them on reaching this milestone and wishes them every success in their future endeavours!
