MUT – Mädchen und Technik: Workshop “Digital Party Planning”

Text analysis workshop by Sonja Lachner and Aaron Lang

As part of the “MUT – Girls and Technology” project, which aims to get girls interested in technical and scientific careers, Sonja Lachner and Aaron Lang from the Chair of Media Informatics held a workshop on text analysis. On November 6, 2025, eleven participants aged 9 to 14 explored various techniques of computer-assisted text analysis in the “Digital Party Planning” workshop. The goal was to use these techniques to plan a fictional birthday party for the student council mascot Fooboar. The girls learned how computers can analyze and structure texts to create guest lists or network graphs, for example. In the practical part, they worked with Python to solve programming tasks. Despite some challenges in the programming tasks, the participants mastered the workshop with a lot of curiosity and perseverance and learned that mistakes and problems are also an important part of the learning process in computer science.
