When you go abroad, it is highly recommended that you sign a Learning Agreement prior to your departure. A Learning Agreement is a declaration of intent confirming that specific courses completed abroad will be eligible for credit transfer upon your return. The basis of this agreement is an equivalence assessment between the respective course offered at the University of Bamberg and the course taken at the partner university.

After receiving your confirmation to study abroad, we recommend reviewing the course offerings at your host university and comparing them with the SAS modules here in Bamberg. Then, please contact the respective chair at the University of Bamberg to request a Learning Agreement. To facilitate this process, we have provided links below to the chairs most relevant for SAS students:

As links or responsibilities may change over time, please inform me of any errors in the above list (e-mail: study.ma-sas(at)uni-bamberg.de) so that I can correct them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have credits earned at a foreign university recognized even without a Learning Agreement?

Yes, this is possible. You can submit a credit transfer application at any time via the chair responsible for the module for which you are seeking recognition. However, a Learning Agreement provides additional certainty, as the respective chair commits to granting credit before you go abroad.

Is a Learning Agreement legally binding?

No, it is not legally binding, as a full equivalence check can only be conducted after your return, based on the content actually taught and the coursework completed. Therefore, you are advised to contact the respective chair with which you signed the Learning Agreement if it turns out that any information relevant for the equivalence assessment (e.g., syllabus, course content, examination format) was incorrect, incomplete, or changes during your stay.
