GENIAL Research

Focusing on the Potential of Gender - Changing Society

Better diagnostics for and treatment of heart attacks, more valid algorithms, safer and need-based cities, and gender-equitable workplaces — What do these scenarios have in common?

They demonstrate how a consideration of gender aspects in research can have a direct impact on our lives. Whether in computer science, spatial planning, or business administration, innovative interdisciplinary research rarely makes progress without considering the gender perspective.

As highlighted in the above examples, the lack of consideration of sex and gender has a direct impact on our quality of life. Nevertheless, this non-consideration has existed for a long time, and this is why we still have large gaps in data and knowledge regarding the reality of life, health, and the career paths of women.

These gaps must be closed step by step, and the University of Bamberg wants to make a contribution to this effort with the “GENIAL Research” project. The goal is for existing gender-sensitive research to be strengthened and expanded.

Prof. Dr. Astrid Schütz, in cooperation with the Academic Equal Opportunity Office, applied for funding from the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research for the GENIAL Project through their call for proposals "Geschlechteraspekte im Blick" (Keeping Gender in Mind).

We will keep this page up-to-date with additional information and upcoming events related to the subject of gender-sensitive research.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information about the project in general or to be included in the GENIAL network at the University of Bamberg.
