Rotation

Parent Previous Next

Before interpreting a factor, an important step has to be taken: the rotation of factors. Due to the factor analysis, which extracts the factors containing the maximum amount of shared variance one after the other, the first factor will include numerous features, that will have a smaller weight on the following factors. Therefore, the factors need to be rotated in order to include only the most representative features. The methods of rotation most commonly used are Varimax and Promax (cf. Biber 1988: 84-85).
