2 Multi-dimensional analysis

Previous Next

In this section, the methodology of multi-dimensional analysis is further investigated by providing additional material and useful exercises. To this end, the explanations given in the chapter “Identifying multi-dimensional patterns of variation across registers” by Biber and Gray will be summarised before offering comprehensive elaborations on special key terms by means of a glossary. Thereafter, supplementary information on the original 1988 MD study along with interactive exercises will be provided. In the last part of Section 2, I will show how the basic dimensions of English can be applied to other fields of study.
