(Promotionsthema): Title of dissertation: Religious Minorities in "Republican Iraq" between Rights and Discrimination Policies (A socio- political and historical study)

Religious minorities in the Muslim world in general and the Middle East in particular face critical changes and huge pressure by the governments and by the social majority, especially after the intensification of political Islam and the expansion of the radical fundamentalist attitudes which could not afford the presence of non-Muslim religious minorities which are different in the way of thinking and religious belief.
Since its foundation in 1921, the Iraqi state contained many religious minorities, and what distinguishes them is that each of its assets private and build social, customs, traditions and beliefs, as well as its history is full of events and political attitudes towards countries and forces which ruled the region or have influence on it, and Iraq and the Kurdistan region, in particular, was the cradle of the majority of these religious minorities.
Due to the importance of this subject, I found it necessary to write a scientific and an academic research about the religious minorities in Iraq in an important and historical period, which is the republican era and is full of events and social-political changes. The religious minorities in Iraq like Christian, Yezidis, Jews, Mandaean, Kakai and Bahai are considered to be the oldest components of the Iraq history, which are considered to be the original people of Iraq, but they began to live as minorities in discrimination and the status of inferiority with the majority and from time to time. They exposed persecution and forced displacement campaigns from their original places to certain places (areas) in villages, and these actions happened by successive Iraqi government and then by the majority (Muslims).
Minorities are now in the forefront and have become the focus of international organizations and decision-making centers in major countries especially the United States and the European Union, and the reason is that political Islam and the escalating fundamentalist tendency seemed to threaten the social safety.
Evidence for this is the influx of refugees, mostly followers of religious minorities to the Iraqis neighboring countries, European countries, and perhaps the reason for their flight from Iraq is a direct threat by the armed organization, as well as the social majority, which would push them and oblige them to leave their homes and residence places. The migration out of Iraq is a safe heaven to their values & traditions, only because they are a religious minority.
From this point of departure, I decided to do a social, political and historical research work about these religious minorities in Iraq in an academic field in connection to the historical of events that created these phenomena.
The writing curriculum is based on an analytical, descriptive method and it is a historical research for events in the light of available documents and sources. Religious minorities faced serious accidents, in the monarchy in Iraq such as bloody massacres by the Iraqi government troops against the Christians, Yezidis and Jews in the thirties and early forties, which form the basis for the study of minorities for the period from the date of the subsequent Republican Iraq.
Most of the studies about minorities just repeat general sentences about describing their beliefs and rituals or other aspects of religions. The existence of many studies about them led to good knowledge about the rituals and beliefs of them, but there is still a lack of information about Iraqi minorities in the political and historical perspective. Therefore, in this project it will be attempted to study the situation of religious minorities and the interaction between these religious minorities and socio-political pressure to assimilation by the surrounding official religion during its history.
To a broader understanding of the situation of religious minorities, I will discuss and analyze the following issues: the political and social situation of religious minorities in the context of history. Policies and demographic change for minority areas, the legal and constitutional rights. Social discrimination and rush toward decreased numbers and immigration challenges.
