Guest Seminar: The Sonnet in English

From 18 to 26 October 2013, Prof. Dr. Don Siebert from the University of South Carolina gave a full seminar on sonnets, the short poems of an almost identical form. Most of the concerns of human life have found expression in sonnets - particularly romantic love, personal crisis and introspection, and war - all subsumed under the theme of human achievement, suffering and mortality.

On 22 October, Don Siebert gave a guest lecture on the topic "Mortality's Muse: Death in Eighteenth-Century Literature".

Both the MA-level seminar, which discussed sonnets by British and American poets, and the guest lecture were part of the Englischsprachiges Programm at the University of Bamberg.
