This April, the xAILab Bamberg traveled to London, UK, to participate in the 23rd IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging. Jointly organized by the IEEE Signal Processing Society and the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, the conference brought together over 900 participants from 57 countries at the ExCeL London. We contributed to this global forum with an oral presentation on domain generalization and participated in a panel discussion regarding the future of artificial intelligence careers.

The growing availability of foundation models has opened up new possibilities for building robust and efficient machine learning systems. In our latest paper, HypCBC: Domain-Invariant Hyperbolic Cross-Branch Consistency for Generalizable Medical Image Analysis, published in Transactions on Machine Learning Research (TMLR), we introduce a lightweight hyperbolic learning method that improves both in-distribution classification and out-of-distribution generalization in medical imaging.

This September, our xAILab Bamberg had the pleasure of participating in the prestigious MICCAI 2025 (Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention) conference, hosted for the very first time in Daejeon, South Korea. Set in the heart of Korea’s high-tech research hub, this year’s MICCAI brought together a record-breaking 3,000 participants and over 1,000 accepted papers, marking a new milestone in the conference’s nearly three-decade history.

Under the dual themes “From Concept to Clinical” and “Pan-Asian Connections,” MICCAI 2025 celebrated innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity across the global medical imaging community and our lab was proud to contribute to this inspiring gathering.
