Online newspaper archives

The University Library provides access to the online archives of important national and international daily and weekly newspapers.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Via BiblioNet search, you can access the FAZ Archives which are home to more than 1.6 million articles of the FAZ, the FAZ Sunday Paper, the Rhein-Main-Zeitung and the FAZ.NET. BiblioNet goes back to 1 Jan 1993.
The FAZ 49-92 Archives contains more than 2.8 million retro-digitised articles from more than 13,000 issues of the FAZ and its local inserts between 1 Nov 1949 and 31 Dec 1992. All articles can be accessed in their original layout.


The Nexis database contains the full text of more than 1,000 newspapers from many countries and regions, including more than 50 regional and nation-wide German newspapers as well as important European ones (e.g. Die Presse, Der Standard, The Guardian, The Independent, Le Figaro, Le Monde, Il Corriere della Sera, El Pais and many more), in addition to papers from other countries (such as the New York Times, USA Today, the Washington Post, the South China Morning Post and many others).

Süddeutsche Zeitung

SZ LibraryNet contains editions of the Süddeutsche Zeitung for Germany, Bavaria, and Munich from 1992 onward; the SZ-Magazin from 1999, as well as so called “SZ-Sonderausgaben” (ie. special editions such as SZ-Extra and Primetime). From 1998 onwards, articles can be accesses as newspaper pages saved in PDF format. The current edition for Germany can be accessed at 10 p.m. the night before. The Bavaria and Munich editions are made available at 7 a.m.


In the database WISO you can search for articles in more than 100 daily and weekly newspapers from the German-speaking area. The full texts of the newspaper articles are available in HTML format (no visual material). The database is updated daily with new articles, most newspapers are available from the mid-90s (see source list for more detailed information).
