Vita

Felix Bittmann studied sociology and history in Freiburg (Breisgau) and Bamberg and worked as a student assistant during his bachelor studies (Department of Teaching Development at the University of Freiburg). Since October 2017 he has been working on the DFG project Alternative Routes to Higher Education Eligibility (2018-2020). His research interests include educational sociology, social inequality, quantitative methods, and philosophy of science.

In his dissertation he investigates the development of educational aspirations of primary and secondary school students in the German education system with a special focus on social inequality. The main objectives of the dissertation are to find out when aspirations develop or change and which factors exert an influence on them. The impact of aspirations on educational decisions and participation is also in the focus of the analyses.
