In order to allow you to access University of Bamberg data services, the Computing Centre will set up an account with your user name (BA number) and a personal password. By entering this user name and password, users can log on to the university’s data services and confirm their identities.
Students receive their accounts at the time of their enrolment, and employee accounts are set up upon request as soon as – or shortly after – employees begin work.

Data Services
Based on access authorisation as recorded by the university’s data services (email, data storage, etc.), the system either grants or denies access to the individuals signing on to the system using a particular user account (BA number). With regard to aspects of data security and the granting of access authorisation, a distinction is made between personal and official data services:
- Data services are always considered personal if users are indicated by their first and last names or by their personal BA number. (Email address: firstname.lastname@uni-bamberg.de).
- In cases where data does not belong to an individual person, but rather to a department or institution, and is processed, saved and presented in fulfilment of that department or institution’s official duties, the data services are considered official.

Institutional Identification Code
Institutional Identification Codes (ID Codes) are distinct short designations for university institutions (academic departments, professorships, institutes, projects, administrative departments and sections, etc.) which are used to indicate these entities’ data services. They are, for instance, the institutions’ websites (http://www.uni-bamberg.de/rz), official, job-related email accounts (secretariat.rz@uni-bamberg.de) or file server access (\\daten.uni-bamberg.de\rz).
An institution’s director must make a request for an institutional ID Codes: abbreviation request (in German).
