Psychology B.Sc. degree programme
Brief description
The University of Bamberg has been offering the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree programme in Psychology since the winter semester of 2008/2009.
The Psychology B.Sc. degree programme comprises introductions to various primary and applied Psychology subjects. You gain knowledge of empirical and scientific psychological work through courses in methodology, participating in psychological studies (“Versuchspersonenstunden”), a practical course in empirical psychological research, and preparing a bachelor thesis. Different required electives further allow setting individual priorities at an early stage.
Subject to accreditation by the responsible health authorities, from the winter semester 2020/21 onwards, the Psychology B.Sc. degree programme at the University of Bamberg will offer contents required by the PsychThApprO (criteria for obtaining a license to practice as a psychotherapist).
You can find further information on the bachelor's degree in Bamberg under "Curriculum".
Program objectives
The primary objective of the Psychology B.Sc. degree programme is to impart a thorough specialist knowledge necessary for professional practice, a comprehensive understanding of the main contents of the subject, and the skills to apply and connect fundamental scientific methods and findings.
The students should acquire a solid knowledge of the psychological basics and initial expertise in the applied disciplines of Psychology to achieve a general and subject-specific professional ability. Thus, they also create the basis for later completing the master’s degree in Psychology. To equip our students with scientific qualifications and professional acting skills, we present well-founded Psychology theories linked with application problems and developments in practice in our B.Sc. degree programme.
The Bachelor's degree in Psychology qualifies you for routine psychological activities, which you will usually carry out under the responsibility of a qualified psychologist (M.Sc. degree or “Diplom”).
