Which requirements do I need to fulfill for the admission to the Master’s Degree Programme Survey Statistics?

The course of studies addresses students having concluded a university degree (or equivalent) in social sciences, economics, mathematics, psychology or other disciplines relevant for statistics with grade 2.5 (good) or better. Moreover knowledge of modules with statistical and/or quantitative methodical orientation to the extent of at least 30 ECTS credits have to be proven. This knowledge could have been acquired in courses of descriptive, inductive, multivariate as well as computer-assisted statistics, mathematical propaedeutics and econometrics or subject-specific empirical research methods.

Which courses/modules will be accepted as prerequisites for the 30 ECTS credits (50 ECTS credits) that are necessary for admission?

All courses with statistical and/or quantitative methodical orientation, e.g. descriptive, inductive, multivariate as well as computer-assisted statistics (R, SPSS, STATA), mathematical propaedeutics and econometrics or subject-specific empirical research methods,  or a Bachelor’s thesis with statistical or quantitative orientation. Furthermore, also Computer Science modules with reference to mathematics/data analytics, as well as programming languages (Python, SQL, etc.) are relevant.

In case the statistical or quantitative methodical orientation doesn’t become clear from the title of the module, please include an extract of your handbook of modules in your application. The modules which could be considered for the 30 ECTS credits (50 ECTS credits) should be marked. Since winter term 2017/18, an application is possible even if not all of your ECTS credits are on hand yet.

What can’t be accepted for the 30 ECTS credits (50 ECTS credits)?

We do not accept qualitative modules, internships that haven’t been graded, and student’s jobs or tutoring jobs.

What can I do to acquire missing ECTS credits?

In case of (probably) insufficient statistical and/or quantitative methodical knowledge (< 30 ECTS credits) you can e.g. complete module studies before being admitted to the Master's Degree Programme Survey Statistics in order to fulfill the required qualifications for the admission. It's also possible to qcquire missing ECTS credits during a Summer School.

When do I need to hand in my Bachelor’s thesis if I want to study the Master's Degree Programme Survey Statistics next term?

You have to hand it in until the end of the respective current term.

I completed my Bachelor’s programme at another university and am not sure whether I fulfill the requirements needed for an application.

Can I apply for the Master’s Degree Programme Survey Statistics even if not all of my ECTS credits are on hand yet?

Yes, this is possible since winter term 2017/18.

Which deadlines do I need to keep in mind?

The process of admission takes approx. two weeks. That’s why your application needs to be handed in at least two weeks prior to the end of the enrolment deadline of the particular term.

Which documents do I need to hand in with the application?

Bachelor certificate or Transcript of Records, printed online enrolment form, CV, and certificate about general qualification for university entrance.

What do I need to do if I don’t have my Bachelor certificate at hand at the time of application?

You can apply with your Transcript of Records. We calculate your grade point average based on your previous performance. If your application is successful, you will get a preliminary admission.

How many university places are open for application?

There isn’t a limitation yet.
