Svenja Hönig studied Art History and French at the University of Bochum as well as Heritage Conservation at the University of Bamberg. She is currently working on her dissertation regarding the role of emotions in the field of architectural heritage. This work is located at the Chair of Heritage Conservation in Bamberg.

In the summer of 2019, due to the IPID4all scholarship (funded by DAAD and BMBF), Svenja Hönig was able to realize a three-month research stay in New York City as part of her PhD studies. Since 2016 she has been working as a research associate at the Centre for Heritage Conservation Studies and Technologies (KDWT) at the University of Bamberg.

Since October 2019 she has been a research associate in the Research Training Group 2227 "Identity and Heritage" at the University of Weimar. Here she is deepening her theoretical research on the cultural negotiation of heritage, identity and emotion, as well as on value discourses in the field of heritage conservation. Beyond the theory and history of German heritage conservation, international discourses on heritage are increasingly being looked at.

She is a member of the German National Committee of ICOMOS and the Association of German Art Historians.
