Prof. Dr. Lasse Gerrits

Prof. Dr. Lasse Gerrits holds the Chair for Political Science, in particular the Governance of Innovative and Complex Technological Systems. He studied Public Administration and Urban Planning at the Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. After his graduation in 2003, he worked as a researcher at TNO Built Environment and Geosciences whilst working on his Ph.D. thesis simultaneously. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2008 and was appointed as assistant-professor (2008 – 2011) and associate-professor (2011 – 2014) at the Erasmus University Rotterdam before coming to University of Bamberg.
His research focuses on the nature and operation of complex socio-technological systems. Past research projects include the planning and construction of port, railway and road infrastructure, the operations of railway systems, urban planning and the development and use of computational models in public decision-making. Various research projects were funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research or commissioned by third parties. In the Netherlands, he was a regular advisor to municipal planning authorities. He was awarded an NWO Veni-grant in 2010 and the "Arthur" award for best teacher in Public Administration in 2012.
He is co-editor in chief for the Complexity, Governance & Networks journal, and editor for International Journal of Social Research Methodology.
He likes to read the works of Salman Rushdie and Haruki Murakami and listens to a lot of music.
