The Professorship of Sociology with Focus on Education and Work in the Life Course is concerend with two central research areas.
The first area covers access to education. The focus is on different issues related to social inequality in the acquisition of education.
The second area is devoted to the association between education and the labour market. This includes the returns to education and transition processes from school to work.
In both areas we analyze developments and changes over longer periods of time as well as differences between institutional settings or countries. A particular interest lies on the underlying social mechanisms and structural influences which lead to the observable patterns.
