Chair of Sociology, with special emphasis on Social Inequalities

The Chair

After the retirement of Prof. em. Dr. rer. pol. Dr. h.c. Hans-Peter Blossfeld (Emeritus of Excellence) on April 1, 2020, the Chair of Sociology I was renamed "Chair of Sociology, with special emphasis on Social Inequalities".

Since October 1, 2020, the Chair is represented by Dr. Florian Schulz.

Our Profile

We study social structures and social inequalities from an international comparative perspective. More specifically, we examine labor market chances, educational inequalities, employment patterns, home ownership, and wealth distributions in Germany and other modern societies (primarily in Europe and North America). The central question of our research is how individual opportunities, lives and inequality patterns are influenced by country-specific institutions (e.g., education systems, labor markets, welfare states) and country-specific cultures.
