Step by Step - an Initiative of the Women's Representative for the Realisation of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching

At the University of Bamberg, around 30% of all professorships are currently held by women. The University of Bamberg supports women every step of the way to professorships so that this remains the case and the equality of women in science is further developed.

Young female scientists are given the opportunity to receive financial support at every career level. Approval periods begin in April of the application year. In justified exceptional cases, the scholarship can start one month earlier.

In what form should the application documents be submitted?

Please send us your application documents as a PDF file. If this is not possible for you, please send us a double "loose sheet collection". Nothing to staple, staple or similar. No folders, interleaves, etc. The "second version" can be a copy of the first.

Should I attach an informal letter to the application or are the application form, exposé and other documents sufficient?

As with any application, a cover letter is desirable, even if it is not explicitly required.

Who is the contact person for the cover letter?

The scholarships and bonuses are awarded by the university women's representatives, who are the contact persons in the cover letter. You can either write "To the university women's representatives" in general or name all university women's representatives personally.

Is the CV with a picture to be submitted?

It is not necessary to add a picture to your CV.

Should I be eligible for funding because of my age, or can child time be taken into account?

Yes.

When can I apply for a Post-Doc Scholarship? Do I have to already have the dissertation certificate or is proof that the thesis has been submitted sufficient?

At the time of the application deadline, the dissertation certificate does not have to be available. However, the scholarship can only be granted as soon as it has been submitted. Please note this in your cover letter.

Is it also possible to apply for a 50% scholarship for twice this period?

No.

Can expert opinions be submitted separately?

Reports can also be sent to us directly by the author, also by e-mail.

Can expert opinions be submitted later?

Health insurance is not included in the scholarship, you must insure yourself.

Are additional income permitted?

Additional income is normally not permitted. One teaching assignment per semester is permitted.

When will a decision be made on the award of a teaching position and when will the notices be sent out?

We try to send the notices at the latest 6 weeks after the application deadline. Due to the large number of applications, it is unfortunately difficult to make an earlier decision.

How likely is it that a scholarship will be awarded?

No number can be given about the probability. It always depends on the funds available and the number of applications. These have been increasing in recent years, so it is difficult to assess the chances of a single application.
