Welcome to the Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science Programmes in European Economic Studies (EES)

The EES degree programme

Since the 2000/01 winter semester, "European Economic Studies (EES)" is the first consecutive Bachelor’s / Master’s programme in economics in Bavaria (and one of the first in Germany). The programme is based on a 3 + 2 model (3-year Bachelor’s + 2-year Master’s).

In addition to a variety of electives, practical relevance and an internationally oriented curriculum, this programme places special emphasis on interdisciplinarity with regard to relevant subject matter from the social sciences and economics. This course of study is focused on economics. Additionally, an emphasis is placed on internationality and interdisciplinarity: Through language training, an integrated year abroad in the bachelor’s programme and the incorporation of the Faculty’s wide ranging economic and social science course offering, students not only gain a high level of expertise, but they are also able to develop their own individual academic profile.

In just three years, students in the Bachelor's programme can complete their first professional qualification, the Bachelor of Science. Depending on the choice of the exchange university, a double degree from the University of Bamberg and the exchange partner university is also possible. More information on this option can be found here.

As part of the two-year EES Master’s programme, bachelor’s graduates have the opportunity to earn a degree equivalent to the Diplom in Economics, the Master of Science. Based on the foundational education of the Bachelor’s programme, students have the opportunity to pursue an individual specialisation.

  •   Interest in economic issues
  •   Strong analytical skills
  •   Interest in the application of advanced mathematical and statistical methods
  •   German language proficiency

The internationally oriented Bachelor’s and Master’s programme in "European Economic Studies (EES)" has been accredited continuously by the renowned accreditation agency ACQUIN since December 2005.

Career Prospects

... open up a broad field of career opportunities, since the study of economics does not deal with the solution to a few special problems, but conveys the tools necessary to meet ever-changing challenges. Economists work in government ministries, international organisations, research institutes, associations and throughout the corporate structure.

  •  "In my first job in the Economics Department of the German Bundestag’s Scientific Services, my work corresponded directly to the mixture of economic theory and practical experience offered in Bamberg."

Dipl.-Volkswirt M. Hilger, Policy Advisor, German Bundestag - Administration, Department of     International Relations

  • "In the study of economics, one learns to think in abstract, interdependent structures. This mind-set provides the skills needed to find one's way in the most diverse fields. "

Diplom-Volkswirt M. Jacobs, Corporate Account Manager, Dresdner Bank AG, Berlin.

Career prospects ...

... for students in the EES programme are positively influenced by two related aspects: By concentrating on economic content and methodology during the first two years of study, EES students acquire core competencies in economics; since they can also earn their first professional qualification after three years in the EES programme, EES graduates with a bachelor’s degree are comparatively young and highly skilled candidates in the labour market. Additionally, the required business-specific training in two foreign languages is becoming increasingly important in the ever more internationalised world of work.

The bachelor's degree also provides the option of pursuing advanced qualification within the framework of the master's programme after several years of professional experience.
