THE APPLICATION PORTAL IS NOW OPEN UNTIL 31 AUGUST 2019

It is now possible to hand in an application for 2 DAAD GSSP Scholarships thus becoming a regular member of the Graduate School.

The Scholarships are available from 01 April 2020. DAAD scholarships for international candidates are available for three years. We are inviting applications by highly qualified graduates from the fields of Sociology, Psychology, Educational Science, Political Science, Labour and Educational Economics, Demography and Statistics.

On 16 May, Prof. Dr. Yossi Shavit will be talking about:

"Family Income in Early Childhood and Later Scholastic Achievement in Israel"


Yossi Shavit is a Professor of Sociology at the Tel Aviv University, Israel. His main research interests focus on social inequality, the sociology of education and the effects of experiences and education in early childhood on children's development, personality, and achievements. Additionally, he serves as a principal researcher at the Taub Centre for Social Policy Studies in Israel where he directs the Educational Policy Programme.

On 5 June Claire Adida will be talking about:

"What Makes People Act on Behalf of Refugees"


Claire Adida is an associate professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego, United States. Her current research investigates the conditions that reduce out-group discrimination, and the strategies vulnerable minorities employ to navigate discriminatory environments.
The Guest Lecture is part of the workshop "Current Issues in Asylum and Migration" as the keynote speech but is open to all doctoral students, who do not already participate in the workshop.

Current Issues in Asylum and Migration

On 4 and 5 June, the Graduate School will host a workshop concerning the question: How do asylum seekers select their destination countries (if at all) and how do they get there? Scholars who work on various current issues of asylum and migration research will come together to discuss the topic from different perspectives.

Tània Verge, Universitat Pompeu Fabra


On 12 June, Prof. Dr. Tània Verge will be talking about:

"The Gender Politics of Candidate Selection"


Tania Verge is an Associate Professor of Gender and Politics at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain. She has published extensively in the fields of political representation and political parties, with focus on the gendered informal institutions underpinning party politics and parliaments and on resistance to the adoption and implementation of gender equality policy, including gender quotas. She is currently advising the Parliament of Catalonia in the elaboration of its gender audit and action plan.

With almost 50 courses and roughly 500 participants the event is a considerable success every year.
