// DISSERTATION PROJECT

Religiosity, Denominations and Anti-Immigrant Attitudes in Germany and Europe

The dissertation project focuses on the effect of religiosity and denominational belonging on anti-immigrant attitudes. Religions and group membership influence one’s values, behavior, attitudes, and worldviews. Therefor they also affect how individuals evaluate, perceive, and react towards members of other groups (e.g. immigrants, members of other denominations). Especially in the light of the recent refugee crisis, where an overwhelming majority of immigrants are Muslims or from predominantly Muslim countries, it is crucial to understand how different religious groups and also non-religious people perceive other religious groups. These findings can be a key factor in reducing and preventing anti-immigrant attitudes and crimes. They are also a helpful guideline in the decision making process (e.g. integration programs, curricula at school).
