Doing a PhD in General Linguistics
Postgraduate students can obtain a doctorate in General Linguistics under the supervision of Professor Dr. Geoffrey Haig.
Once the topic of their PhD has been agreed upon, potential candidates for a PhD program are expected to hand in a proposal of no more than 5 pages dealing with the current state of research, the research question and research methods. The proposal should also contain a timeline for the planned project. Only when the proposal has been handed in can supervision be guaranteed.
Students interested in the PhD program also have to make sure that they fulfill the entry requirements for completing a PhD program at Bamberg University. Information about the entry requirements can be found in the Rules and Regulations for the PhD program[Promotionsordnung] at the Faculty of Arts and Cultural Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities.
If subject-specific and formal requirements are met and Professor Haig has agreed to supervise the candidate, the PhD candidate can become a member of the Bamberg Graduate School of Linguistics.
