Professional Prospects

Although Political Science does not train students for specific jobs, the majority of our graduates have benefited from their good training in social science methods, research skills and problem-solving skills and found appropriate employment soon after graduation. The employability of our students is further enhanced by a compulsory internship at undergraduate level, which has proved to be crucial for the transition from university to full-time employment. Our graduates have gone on to succeed in fields such as  market research, international organizations, journalism, public affairs, political consultancy and higher education. With an MA in Political Science students broaden their skills set, further enhancing their professional prospects.  In addition, we realise that our students are increasingly competing for jobs internationally. If you would like to stay in academia, the successful completion of a Bamberg Master’s degree creates an outstanding base for a doctoral project in Bamberg or elsewhere. For example, the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Science ( BAGSS) was established in 2010 to provide exceptionally qualified doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars with an excellent, research-active, supportive and structured working and learning environment. As of 2012, BAGSS will be funded under the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments which aims to promote top-level research and to make Germany a more attractive research location.
