Day trip to the 'Dark Romanticism' exhibition at the Städel Museum

On January 19, we took 25 students sharing our fascination with the gloomy, the secretive and the evil on a day trip to the "Dark Romanticism" exhibition at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main.

Highly praised in German feuilletons, the art exhibition was the first one to exclusively focus on the dark aspect of Romanticism in the visual arts and its legacy. It comprised over 200 paintings, sculptures, graphic works, photographs and films, but negotiates the influence of (Gothic) literature on these visual art works, too.
