President: Michal Bron Jr, Ph.D., Sweden is Associate Professor at Södertörn University. His research interests include: building up and maintaining civil society; history of liberal adult education in Central and Northern Europe; female adult educators in Ireland, Poland and Sweden in the 19th century; a Jewish-Christian dialogue. He is a co-founder of the European Society for Research on the Education for Adults (ESREA) and the International Society of Comparative Adult Education (ISCAE) and a member of their respective Steering Committees.
Vice-President: Prof. Dr. Jost Reischmann, Germany was until retirement October 2008 chair of Andragogy at Bamberg University. He was President of ISCAE 1993-2008. From AAACE (American Association for Adult and Continuing Education) he received 1998 the President's Award for Exceptional and Innovative Leadership, 2006 the Outstanding Service Medallion. 1999 he was nominated and inducted in the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame; 2006 he was elected in the board of directors. He has extensively and in manifold international contexts presented, edited, and written about adult education, with eight books and more than 180 articles. For many years he cooperates with adult education and training institutions in business and general adult education, especially in train-the-trainer programs.
Lore Arthur, PhD., MSc., Great Britain. Chair of the British Association of International Comparative Education (BAICE), Associate of the Centre for Higher Education Research and Information, Doctoral Research Supervisor (Lifelong Learning) at The Open University, UK. She was, until recently, Senior Lecturer (Lifelong Learning) at The Open University, Faculty of Education, and director for area of lifelong learning teaching and research at Masters and Doctoral level. She has published and researched widely in areas of language learning, lifelong learning and higher education, often with a comparative dimension.
Antonio Carlos Pestana Fragoso de Almeida, Ph.D., Portugal. Prof-Adjunto at the Higher School of Education, University of Algarve, until recently - Pro-Rector of the University of Algarve. Active at the Research Centre on Space and Organizations (CIEO, University of Algarve, Portugal) and the Research Centre "Social Studies and Social Intervention" (ESEIS, University of Huelva, Spain). In the years 2005-2008 he was a member of the Steering Committee of the European Society for Research on the Education of Adults (ESREA). In 2006 he created and became a co-convenor of a research network "Between Global and Local - Adult Learning and Development."
Gretchen Bersch, Alaska, USA ... In 2008, she was nominated and inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame.
Marcie Boucouvalas, Ph.D., USA is Professor and Program Director of Adult Learning and Human Resource Development at Virginia Tech's Graduate Center/National Capital Region. In 2003 she was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame and currently serves on their Board of Directors. She also serves as Director of the Commission on International Adult Education, American Association for Adult & Continuing Education and is President-Elect of the Coalition of Lifelong Learning Organizations. She has been extensively engaged in international work for decades, both as a scholar and professional practitioner, and in 1998 was inducted into Phi Beta Delta, the Honor Society for International Scholars. She also is deeply committed to understanding transpersonal adult development and the engagement of a larger sense of Self, and serves as Editor for the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology. Involved in forming the International Society for Comparative Adult Education (ISCAE), she served for years as Secretary.
John A. Henschke, Ed. D., USA is Associate Professor and Leader of the Adult Education Program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He has a Permanent Appointment as Visiting Professor of Beijing Radio and Television University, Peoples' Republic of China. He has been President of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE), and the President of the Missouri, USA / Para, Brazil Partners of the Americas. He chaired the Commission on International Adult Education of AAACE. In 1998, he was nominated and inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame.
Jonathan Kaplan, Ph.D., France is a consultant and researcher in adult education who has been involved in project and programme design, management and evaluation in adult education and vocational training for over 20 years. His expertise ranges from instructional design and technology enhanced learning environments to auditing and assessment of private and public sector training and educational systems on an international level. He has taught educational technology at Avignon University and currently is a lecturer in the department of education sciences at West Paris University where he is also a member of Education and Training Research Centre [Cref EA-1589]. He has just finished research on Self-Direction in Cooperative Learning, namely Study Circles, for his PhD, and is currently taking part in research on collective self-learning in a nationwide company in France.
Marcella Milana, Ph.D., Danmark/Italy. Associate professor in adult education at the Danish School of Education, Aarhus University. She specializes in international and comparative education and lifelong learning. Her main research interests comprises: competence development through participation in formal and non-formal learning, motivation towards participation in adult education and training, professionalisation of adult educators. She teaches and supervises master students and coordinates a 1-year master in Adult learning and human resource development. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Nordic Comparative and International Education Society (NOCIES).
Daniel Schugurensky, Ph.D., Canada. Educational Policy Studies, Associate Professor and Coordinator Adult Education and Community Development Program, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. His academic interests cover four main areas: a) adult education theory, research, policy and practice, b) economic globalization, state restructuring and educational change, c) popular education, citizenship learning, participatory democracy, and social movements, d) relationships between educational institutions and communities, with focus on community development.
