Studying in Bamberg

With a population of about 70,000, Bamberg is a comfortably-sized community in which you will feel at home quickly. Bamberg is a city where tradition is preserved – the historic old city has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993 – and where modern life is embraced, as shown by the city’s many sculptures, such as those by Botero and Lüpertz.

Bamberg’s location in the Regnitz river valley, its seven hills, the Hain Park and its unique swimming centre on the river, and the close proximity to the Franconian Switzerland and the Steigerwald all contribute to the city’s appeal. And in 2012, the Bavarian State Garden Show is being held in Bamberg.

The University of Bamberg is one of Bavaria’s oldest universities. It was founded in 1647, and is divided among a number of locations, many of which are situated in the city centre. In the autumn of 2012, the university will expand to the ERBA island where the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences will be housed in a new building and inspiring environs.
