General Sociology
To complete their basic study program in General Sociology (Allgemeine Soziologie), students have to obtain one certificate (Schein), one continual assessment substitution (6 credit points) and sit a two-hour intermediate diploma examination (Vordiplomklausur) at 12 cps.
Starting their study program in winter term, students should obtain their credits in the following sequence (when starting in the summer turn, the sequence II - I will apply).

Comparative Macrosociology: Communication, Media and Culture
In the field of specialisation (spez. Soz.) offered in the basic study program, a certificate and/or a continual assessment substitution can be obtained in the following courses. Please bear in mind that courses from the field of "Communication, Media and Culture" cannot be replaced with courses from "Sozialstruktur III".

General Sociology
In the course of the advanced study program in General Sociology, two certificates, a continual assessment substitution (12 cps), a two-hour diploma examination (12 cps) and an oral exam (18 cps) must be completed. As a rule, the oral exam is replaced with a written assessment substitution in a graduate level course (Hauptseminar), unless the thesis focuses on General Sociology. Courses in General Sociology can be combined in any order (information on the site of the examination board).

It is recommended to follow the sequence 1 - 4, though this is not obligatory.
The preparatory course for written exam offers a preparation for the obligatory two-hour written examination in comparative macrosociology. It is offered every semester. The course may take different forms. One course will be determined as preparatory course (KK) every semester and will be marked accordingly to the UniVis. No cerificates for assessment substitutions can be obtained in the preparatory course. It exclusively serves as a preparation for the obligatory two-hour examination.
Upon request, the input of a certificate from a graduate-level seminar or an assessment substitution from the follwing subjects can be accepted:
