Research at the Chair of Sociology II focuses on General Sociology and Historical-Comparative Macrosociology.

In the area of General Sociology, particular attention is drawn to innovative approaches to institutionalism and functionality as well as to globalisation and the Europeanization of economy, law and politics.

In empirical terms, our comparative research concentrates on issues such as labour market policy, environmental policy, financial markets, national identities and state-church relationships.

Methodically, the Chair combines international comparison and multi-level governance analysis.
