The Scientific Career Service (SCS) was established as an integral part of the Trimberg Research Academy (TRAc) and serves as a central contact and service point for questions related to pursuing a doctorate. It supports structured PhD programmes both conceptually and organisationally, and offers advice to all doctoral candidates, as well as to students who are interested in commencing a doctoral project. In order to provide individually tailored and effective support conducive to the promotion of young researchers’ scientific careers, the SCS cooperates closely with other service-oriented institutions at the University of Bamberg.
The SCS advises young scholars according to their funding-related queries. In this way, the close collaboration with the university’s research unit, as well as with other partners, allows scholars to individually assess the opportunities for attracting different forms of funding (e.g. scholarships, employment as a research associate, employment outside the university).
With the aid of a doctoral database (which has been in operation since 2009), it has become possible to provide doctoral candidates with customised information concerning funding opportunities, research activities and topic-related workshops. The database also facilitates and advances the establishment of scientific networks and thus contributes to the creation of synergy.
