Promotion of Young Scholars

The University of Bamberg's research profile is characterised by lively research activities within the main subject areas of education, society, and culture. Supporting young scholars in their attempt to launch academic careers is deemed an essential concern of all university members. In order to  promote highly qualified young researchers in an effective and purposeful manner, it is necessary to take into account the specific peculiarities by which different academic disciplines are characterised.

As a matter of fact, academia has been facing profound reforms and restructuring lately. Among other aspects, these transformations have clearly resulted in a considerable diversification and proliferation of options for scholars, in terms of how to carve out their academic careers: Occupational areas and titles have become more differentiated and numerous – and so have sources, opportunities, and models of funding.

Especially for young researchers, these trends have brought along new opportunities and an increase in potential courses of action, but they also confront these scholars with tremendous and unprecedented challenges. For the University of Bamberg, these transformations have opened up new opportunities for honing the university's specific research profile and for developing strategies geared towards improving the university’s research environment.
