ausführlich
For the Bachelor of Arts in “Interdisciplinary Medieval Studies” the students choose courses from three fields of knowledge, all of which provide their own specific approaches to understanding the cultural, social, economic, political, philosophical and theological structures and processes of the European Middle Ages:
Field 1: Language and Literature
Field 2: Historical sources and theoretical texts
Field 3: Material cultures and visual representations
Additionally they attend electives that serve the purpose to gain and elaborate liberal arts competencies (e.g. special knowledge of foreign languages, applied informatics, etc.).
The lecturers of medieval subjects participating in the degree programme mark the courses in their course offerings that are suitable for the degree programme and define their correlation to one (or several) fields of knowledge.
Usually the subjects are correlated to the fields as follows:
Field 1: English, German, Orient Studies, Romance and Slavic languages
Field 2: History, Historical Ancillary Sciences, Church History and Philosophy
Field 3: Archaeology of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period, Heritage Conversation, Islamic History of Art and Archaeology, Art History
The programme is primarily conducted in German.
