Centre for British Studies (CBS)

Profil

The Centre for British Studies (CBS) was established in March 2000. In addition to the Institute of English and American Studies the CBS serves as a platform for interdisciplinary co-operation between Studies in English Literature and Language, Political Science, History and Geography. The Centre is a teaching and research institute with a strong focus on current political and sociological debates but at the same time it emphasizes the historical dimensions of each of its research areas. The course programme prepares students for positions in public and cultural institutions as well as firms and the media marketplace, with a view to British-German exchange and cooperation. The applicability of knowledge on the job market will be a priority throughout, and the Centre for British Studies provides contacts with German and British companies, media institutions or cultural organizations as well as regular lectures and workshops by executives from outside academia. Regular conferences, lecture series and symposia organized by the CBS complete the interdisciplinary programme.
